Antonio Hermosa Classical Guitar, Solid Cedar Top, Narrow Fretboard

Product Description

The solid cedar top guitar from Antonio Hermosa goes back to these early models to bring you the quality and craftsmanship that appealed to Spain's 19th Century composers. The solid cedar top is a necessity for a highly resonant classical guitar, a warm, clean tonewood that some believe improves with age. This model comes has a narrower fretboard, making it ideal for players with small hands or those who desire the sound of a classical with the feel of a steel-string. It has mahogany back, sides, and neck, 3-ply top purfling, maple binding, and gold-plated tuners. This is a great hand-crafted performance model.

  • Solid Cedar Top
  • Mahogany Back, Sides & Neck

I purchased the Antonio Hermosa Classical Guitar (Mod, AH-10 NF)which features a solid cedar top and a fretboard which is narrower than that found on most classical guitars. When the guitar arrived. I was concerned because the corner of the outside packaging had a crushed corner. As it turned out the inner box was unharmed and the guitar was in perfect shape. A sticker on the back of the neck indicates that the guitar is manufactured in China. I had some misgivings about this, but when I tuned the instrument, I was astonished by the beauty of the build and the rich tone of the guitar. The guitar's action is magnificent. The set-up from the factory is near-perfect and the narrower neck (nut width is 1 7/8") makes the guitar feel like a steel-string with a much softer touch. I have owned several classical guitars over the last 50 years, although none of them has been custom made by hand. I love this guitar! I am completely satisfied with its quality and build. It would be... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS GUITAR, June 8, 2011

I like to play on both classical and acoustic steel string guitars. I love the feel of the nylon strings for fingerpicking and its sound for certain songs. And I also love to play fingerstyle songs on the steel string.

The problem is that because of the wider spacing of the fretboard (and thus string spacing) on the classical guitar, I've always had trouble switching between the two, as my finger muscle memory would get all discombobulated, which made for a frustrating transition between the two. And I just plain didn't like the left hand contortions needed for certain chords and note transitions on a traditional classical guitar (I'm 5'11"-let's call it 6 feet :)- and I have normal sized hands)

And for a VERY LONG TIME, I'd been hoping they would finally make an affordable guitar that would have the neck and spacing of steel string but which you could put nylon strings on. You can't find one under $1000, until now. So thanks for making this guitar. It does... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent guitar for a very good price, March 30, 2011

When my daughter thrilled me by saying she wanted to add guitar to her 10 years of classical piano (hard to get a piano in the dorm room) the immediate question became "which guitar?" I doubted she would fight through the pain incurred when starting a with steel string acoustic, so a classical style seemed the right choice. But classical fretboards are wider (2-2 1/4" nut width) and she has an average size womans hand. I saw another model Hermosa in a local shop and was impressed with its build quality vs. price. When I found the same guitar was available in a narrower version fretboard the decision was made. Certainly, the tone is not the equivalent of a hand made Spanish guitar, but it is very acceptable for a beginners guitar (and eventually a campfire guitar) and the solid cedar top mitigates much of the tinny sound you would expect from a guitar at this price.
